Featuring Calgary mobile veterinarian Dr. Wendy McClelland and co-host Greg Habstritt from Vets To Go. This episode originally aired January 12th, 2014 on News Talk 770 AM.
Here’s what we covered in this week’s show:
The issue of whether pet stores and online classified ads sites fuel the puppy mill and kitten factory industries is extremely controversial and emotional. This week, we continue the debate about whether pet stores should be banned from selling live animals for profit.
In Episode 12, we spoke to the owner of Calgary’s only pet store that sells live animals, as well as a representative from online classified ads website Kijiji.ca. That has been the most downloaded and debated episodes we’ve done, and this week we will look at the other side of the discussion.
We speak to the “other” side of the debate – namely 2 committed animal advocates who are working to try and ban all sales of live animals in pet stores: Deanna Thompson from AARCS.ca, a prominent Calgary rescue organization, and Jennifer Kaiser, one of the founders of Actions Speak Louder Calgary, a group committed to getting a law passed to ban pet store animal sales in Calgary.
You’ll hear the “dark side” of animal sales in pet stores and through Kijiji, and suggested changes and solutions to the problem that they are working to bring into reality.
Dr. Wendy also answers some recently submitted pet questions as well!
